(Coral Springs, FL) The Terror-Free Oil Initiative (TFOI), the group that brought the nation's very first Terror-Free Oil gas station to Omaha, Nebraska, has refused to grant the television network Al-Jazeera an interview with its spokesman, Joe Kaufman. It did this on the grounds that the network has acted as a mouthpiece for terrorists and that the network has had a number of employees charged with collaboration with terrorists.
Al-Jazeera has been accused by several credible sources of inciting violence against Americans by airing video footage obtained from Al-Qaeda. As well, those affiliated with the network have been singled out for working with the enemy. They include Al-Jazeera's bureau chief in Afghanistan, Taysir Alouni, who, in September of 2005, was sentenced to seven years in prison for collaborating with Al-Qaeda.
According to Al-Jazeera English anchor/correspondent Kimberly Halkett, who approached TFOI for an interview, talk of this is due to false propaganda put out by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and the Bush Administration. Halkett made that accusation repeatedly, during a phone conversation with spokesman Kaufman.
Kaufman states, "While we would like nothing more than to get our anti-terrorism message out to the people of the Middle-East , we believe that using a forum such as that of Al-Jazeera would be counter-productive to our cause. The organization has shown itself, in the least, to be severely anti-American in its approach to the news, and it has a dark record of allowing itself to be used by our enemies. We therefore deny any and all interviews by the television network Al-Jazeera."
